| WELCOME TO HOI AN |
Hoi An Ancient Town was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO in
December 1999. It is an ideal place for explorers to discover an outstanding
form of a living museum of architecture and urban life, and the astounding
cultures of the Cham, Chinese, French, Japanese, and Vietnamese people.
Not as mysterious as the Hue Imperial City or natural as Ha Long Bay; Hoi An
Ancient Town offers other antique features of architectural monuments of various
forms: living house, assembly hall, communal house, pagoda, shrine, temple,
bridge, market, and many more. These have been preserved and most are all still
intact. Hoi An Ancient Town is well known for its ancient houses that are more
than 300 years old and the very well preserved Japanese Bridge that was built
several hundred years ago.
Tourists from over the world are really interested in the monthly event at the
Hoi An Ancient Town, which is called "Light Bright". At night on the 15th day of
each lunar month, there would be no fluorescent lights, no motorcycles, and no
television through the town. The people will live by the light from candles, oil
lamps, and from paper lanterns. |
